5G Data Use is rising in South Korea

The latest data from Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT (https://www.msit.go.kr) confirms the healthy growth seen in the country’s 5G market since service launches in early April. There were 1.34 million 5G subscriptions at the end of June 2019, up 0.55 million over May, equivalent to a 2.0% share of subscriptions.

 SK Telecom introduces 5G AR, VR services for eSports fans

South Korean operator SK Telecom has launched three 5G AR and VR services for eSports games fans. Dubbed ‘Jump AR’, ‘LCK* VR Live Broadcasting’ and ‘VR Replay’, the three services are designed to provide a realistic and immersive experience when watching eSports games, the company said.

France regulator: Rules for 5G spectrum auction in C-Band

French regulator Arcep has started consulting on a draft procedure setting out the rules for the forthcoming 5G auction of 3.4-3.8 GHz spectrum. The public consultation, which will run until 04 September, will enable Arcep to finalise the terms of the award, ahead of the auction in the autumn. Meanwhile, the government will receive separate advice by the end of September on the reserve price for the available frequencies. The procedure will enable the country’s four network operators to acquire up to 310 MHz of spectrum from 2020, under 15-year licences with a possible 5-year extension.

Monaco become Europe's first Huawei 5G network, and world first country fully 5G covered

MONACO: Monaco on Tuesday (Jul 9) became the first country in Europe to inaugurate a next-generation 5G mobile phone network based on technology from Chinese firm Huawei, which is seen by the US as a major security risk.

As mobile operators shift away from slower 3G and 4G networks, Europe has been torn over its approach to the Chinese giant, which is a pioneer in 5G technology.
