Volkswagen plans to build 5G network in production plants from 2020 (5G news:


German carmaker Volkswagen will build its own 5G network in the production plants from 2020, a spokesperson for the company said, reports. A tender to choose the supplier of the technology is currently ongoing, the report added. Daimler and BMW also intend to build a 5G network in the productions plants.

German petition Parliament to stop 5G auction on health grounds reaches quorum of 54,000 signatures (5G news:

A petition asking the German Parliament to stop the award of 5G frequencies has reached 54,643 signatures, surpassing the quorum, according to an environmental campaign group called 'Diagnose: Funk'. The German Parliament may decide to suspend the procedure to award 5G frequencies based on "scientifically justified doubts about the safety of this technology", according to the petition.

Japan's government has approved plans by four mobile network operators to deploy 5G networks. The operators plan to offer 5G services in every prefecture within two years, the Nikkei reports.

German 5G auction passes EUR 5 bln in bids

The German Federal Network Agency said that EUR 5.06 billion was offered by the four bidders in the 170th round of the 5G spectrum auction. The bids for the 2.0 GHz band reached a total of EUR 2.06 billion and the bids for the 3.6 GHz band reached EUR 2.65 billion.

Deutsche Telekom placed total bids for up to EUR 1.9 billion for fourteen lots altogether in the two bands, and Vodafone has offered up to EUR 939 million for nine lots. 1&1 Drillisch bid up to EUR 1 billion in total and Telefonica up to EUR 857 million.
