O2 in UK announced new O-RAN project 

16 January 2020, London: O2 has today introduced a new Open Radio Access Network (O-RAN) job to aid customers much better utilise its network. O-RAN is an open and software-defined network technology that allow operators having a larger number of infrastructure parnters which willin facilitate and enable a  much better and much more cost effective network service for customers.

This is especially helpful for coverage in difficult to reach rural areas-- such as an area with a really little population-- or where a sharing model is more cost -effective such as dense metropolitan places where great number of small cells are required.

Brendan O'Reilly, CTO of O2 claimed: "By opening up our radio access network to smaller vendors, including Mavenir, DenseAir and WaveMobile and as we look towards wider adoption of 5G, O-RAN will be part of the solution to bring the latest connectivity to more people around the country".

O2 is working with O-RAN parnters consisting of; Mavenir, DenseAir and also WaveMobile to introduce O-RAN services that will certainly redefine mobile network economics. The company expects deployment of O-RAN to grab speed over next 18-24 months.

- Collaborating with Mavenir, O2 is improving capacity and coverage in high-density zones in London, supplying enhanced mobile connection as well as far better customer experience where clients need it most from stadiums to shopping center.
- With DenseAir, O2 is working at Millbrook to deploy both 4G and 5G networks over an O-RAN solution. O2 works with Millbrook Proving Ground as the public and also private network provider of 5G connection for the testing and advancement of CAV modern technology (Connected Automated Vehicles).
- Coverage solutions  are developed with WaveMobile whose existing O-RAN network is active on several site across the UK.
