The ‘full’ 5G System includes: eMBB (enhanced Mobile Broadband) URLLC (Ultra Reliable Low Latency Communications) mMTC (massive Machine Type Communications).
Massive Machine Type Communication (mMTC) is one of the three primary use cases defined in IMT-2020 Vision which supports extremely high connection density of online devices. mMTC focuses on IoT applications which requires mass deployment of billions of low-cost, low-powered devices and sensors.
This particular use case is characterized by low bandwidth and infrequent bursts of data, requiring long-life batteries.
mMTC based applications are the use cases where low energy devices with low-data volume connect on a massive scale. Some of the 5G applications which come under this use case are :
➢ Smart Cities, Smart Homes and Smart Buildings
➢ Intelligent Agriculture Systems
➢ Patient Monitoring Systems
➢ Traffic Management Systems
