In the near future, 5G signals will beam down from space and support the ‘terrestrial’ 5G infrastructure on Earth. The end result is a new space race for satellites – promising to offer customers a seamless wireless experience across the entire globe.
In fact, the new specification in release 17/18 enables the inclusion of NTN technologies in “standard” 5G devices like iPhones and Android phones, and this could be a major step forward for a vision of ubiquitous connectivity.
And of course, LEO Satellites will play a key part in extending cellular 5G networks to air, sea and other remote areas not covered by small cell networks and where terrestrial coverage is not available.
Many players are currently involved like AST or SpaceX and we do believe that 5G will play a key role in providing connectivity from space .
